Emergency funds for Laura Sinkler's son

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Betty and I am humbly reaching out to all of you for financial assistance for the son of beloved Raintree teacher Laura Sinkler.

On the evening of Monday, September 26th, Edison Sinkler was involved in a traumatic accident. He was running back home from their neighbors across the street — he was getting a part for the remote control plane he was flying — and a car hit the right side of his body. Their street isn’t your typical neighborhood road, it’s a major highway that runs through the many small towns of America. The Sinklers live in rural Kansas, where neighbors very often rely upon one another in a pinch.

Edison was transported to Children’s Mercy, where he was intubated and sedated upon arrival. He has undergone surgery and care for his right side and has suffered traumatic brain injury from the accident. He has been in the pediatric intensive care unit since his admission into the hospital and is still intubated and under sedation at this time. We do not know the entire extent of how he was affected, and time will reveal the full scope of the trauma he has suffered. As doctors assess the next steps, the realization is that the path to recovery will be a long road ahead.

We all know Edison as an avid aviation buff with a thoughtful demeanor and impeccably unique sense of style. He is a 6th year student and along with his younger sister Basil, they both attend Raintree. Basil is a budding gymnast with an infectious smile. His father Austin is known in the local music scene as the drummer for Heavy Petty, and you’d normally find him downtown at Richard’s Music Co during the day.

Laura Sinkler is well known to many families of Lawrence. She has taught class in the Lower Elementary school through many generations of Raintree students. Her kind, empathetic and intuitive nature has guided so many of our children during their formative years, including my own son.

Laura has given so much to our children with her gift of teaching. That is especially why it is at this time that we must rally to support the family during Edison's path to recovery. He will require further medical and rehabilitative care, trips to orthopedic specialists, physical therapy and more. His parents will suffer from lost wages from the extended period of time in which they will need to support Edison. Insurance will not fully cover the true cost of recovery from an accident of this nature.

By supporting the Sinklers, may we ease the weight of their future path. Any help will be welcome and greatly appreciated.
